Monday, September 1, 5k, Pier House 5K, Long Branch, New Jersey
The Long Branch beachfront will be the site of the 11th Annual Pier House 5K road race on Labor Day Monday, September 1st. Race time is 8:30 am. Over 1,000 participants are expected to lace up their shoes for the event.
As the concluding race of the Jersey Shore Golden Grand Prix, awards will also be presented to the top open and age group finishers in the series. The five grand prix races are the Spring Lake 5, the Sheehan Classic, the Belmar 5, the Asbury Park 5K, and the Pier House 5K. Grand Prix Series standings are posted at www.jsgrandprix.com.
There will also be kids’ races following the main event on Monday on the Great Lawn of Long Branch with various distances for children ranging from ages 1 to 12 and all kids will receive a commemorative medal.
In the 2005 race an 11 year old Ajee Wilson of Neptune Township ran the race in a time of 22:12. Ajee is now one of world’s elite middle distance women runners. This past July she ran an 800 meter race in Monaco in a time of 1:57:67 which is the fastest time in the world for a woman in the 800 this year.
In last year’s event breaking the tape first overall and for the men was Andrew Brodeur of Brick in a time of 15:22. Andrew has been dominating the local races with impressive wins at many other events. Coming in second was Brian Quilty also of Brick in 16:06 and then Tim Mulligan of Whiting in a time of 16:33.
For the women it was also a familiar face finishing first it was Jamie Liberti of Middletown, N.J. in a time of 18:11. She was followed by Jennifer Nelson of Barnegat in 18:32 and then Leslie Morrison of Bethesda, Maryland in 19:37.
