The 10th Annual Pier House 5K was held on Monday, Labor Day, September 2, 2013 in Long Branch, N.J.
The runners lined up on the north end of the Long Branch Promenade for the start of the race. It was a humid but with moderate temperatures in the lower 70’s with a fog off the ocean front for the 8:30 a.m. start.
The National Anthem was sung and he runners were given last minute directions from Race Director Phil Hinck of Monmouth Beach, N.J. The runners then took off heading south along the Promenade and through Pier Village and then turned back and to a finish on the promenade near the amphitheater.
Breaking the tape first overall and for the men was Andrew Brodeur of Brick in a time of 15:22. Andrew has been dominating the local races with impressive wins at many other events. Coming in second was Brian Quilty also of Brick in 16:06 and then Tim Mulligan of Whiting in a time of 16:33.
For the women it was also a familiar face finishing first it was Jamie Liberti of Middletown, N.J. in a time of 18:11. She was followed by Jennifer nelson of Barnegat in 18:32 and then Leslie Morrison of Bethesda, Maryland in 19:37.
After all the participants finished there were kid’s races of various ages on the lawn adjoining the amphitheater.
Awards were then presented by Penny Hinck of Monmouth Beach to the overall and age group winners. Tim Mcloone of Rumson and proprietor of the Pier House Restaurant in Pier Village was the emcee for the awards. Long Branch Mayor Adam Schneider who ran the race addressed the runners and thanked them for the support particularly after the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Awards were also presented to the overall winners in the Jersey Shore Golden Grand Prix. Complete results for the series will be forthcoming.
The fall racing season kicks off in earnest next weekend with lots of upcoming events to include:
