A great family destination for hiking, horseback riding, and camping, Pie Town, New Mexico is breathtaking with its rolling hills and untouched natural beauty. Did I mention the Pie-o-neer? A pie cafe located in Pie Town on US Highway 60 in the Alegres mountains, elevation 7,772 feet, its cool, clean air will take your breath away. The Pie-o-neer is a third generation family owned pie business where the service is friendly, fast, and informative.
Pie-o-neer has been in business since 1995. Just to name a few of the great pies, lemon meringue, apple crisp, coconut cream pie with fluffy meringue, cherry, peach, and of course pecan, and any other pie one could imagine. While the Pie-o-neer is not a full service kitchen they do offer soups, stews and sandwiches, the coffee is always fresh and the community is like an extended family.
As a pit stop after traveling all day, or setting up camp to stay a while, Pie Town is a quite, serene place to get back to nature and show the family what it must have been like in the days of the first settlers. Pie Town is very excited about its history and has a festival to celebrate this occasional event.
The Annual Pie Festival is held every second Saturday in September. The community hosts a BBQ plate dinner, baking contest, and other activities as well as a free dance at the end of the evening. Don't be surprised if you see a real cowboy with a side arm and chaps, it's the cowboy way of life. The festival is held at the free campgrounds. Once you have visited the Pie-o-neer and received the wonderful welcome from the friendly folks of Pie Town you just might not want to leave like the rest of the residents that have stopped in for a spell, and decided to stay.
