Animal lovers are just shaking their heads in disbelief in Cape Coral, Fla. after witnessing a man in a red pickup truck drag his dog behind his vehicle near a popular garage sale site on Saturday reported nbc2news.

As the truck traveled along East Retunda Parkway, a black and white dog riding in the open bed of the vehicle tried to jump out. The dog was chained, and as he jumped out, he was dragged along the back of the truck. Suddenly, the driver stopped realizing his dog was caught up in the chain, but instead of helping his dog, the driver unhooked the dog from his leash and took off in his truck.

Yes, there is a law in Lee County that an animal must be in a confined shelter kennel when riding in an open truck, but residents are shocked at the callousness of the dog's owner. When found, the dog's owner can face serious charges.

The dog is very friendly and is recovering at a Fort Meyers veterinarian hospital. She suffers from road rash and a possible broken paw.
