Last week marked the grand opening of the new Idaho Falls location of Pickett’s Bambino, an inexpensive dining option specializing in calzone-like “bambinos”. The restaurant already had a location in Rigby and owner Ryan Pickett saw the opportunity to expand his enterprise into the Idaho Falls market.
What exactly is a bambino? Think of a fried-bread scone filled with cheese, meat, and vegetables. Desert bambinos are even more succulent with pie-like fruit fillings. Probably not the best option for those of us on diets, but nevertheless a very tasty opportunity for those wishing to forego the average fast-food fare of burgers or sandwiches.
Lunch and dinner bambinos are available in several different varieties, including classic (Canadian bacon, pepperoni, sauce and cheese), Aloha (Canadian bacon, pineapple, sauce and cheese), veggie (mushrooms, black olives, pineapple, sauce and cheese), and fire (sausage, cream cheese, pepper flakes, jalapeños and cheese). It is also possible to build your own specialty bambino. Kids especially will like the cheese bambino, which tastes very similar to a grilled-cheese sandwich. Children’s meal combos are also available for $3.49.
A meal of bambino, drink, and a side will only set you back approximately $4.50 (most bambinos alone running the appealing price of $1.89). Pickett’s Bambino also offers you the choice of a salad as a side instead of French fries, which is nice.
Frozen bambinos are also available for purchase at a lower price. They are easy to stack in the freezer to be thawed and eaten later.
Pickett’s Bambino in Idaho Falls is open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 9pm. It is located near Freeman Park at 1305 Fremont Avenue. Their phone number is (208) 522-6575.
