Pick a genre outside of your comfort zone

See also

Many of us enjoy a great book for pleasure. We all seek comfort in genres such as humor fiction, classic novels, contemporary romance, biography, horror, poetry, and so forth. Our area of interests have benefitted us in many ways. For example, they have improved our minds, helping us to see things in a new perspective; they have helped us to better appreciate what else is out there, and so forth.

Although there is no harm in continuing with reading your favorite genre or two, reading a genre that is outside of your comfort zone can make quite a difference. Some people, however, may feel that they won't understand a particular story, that it may just be too overwhelming. That's okay, though. Taking that step is actually a good start. You never know where it'll take you.

Reading a genre or two that is outside of your comfort zone can expand your mind. You'll be open to reading more, as well as discovering new authors. You'll also gain better perspectives. Reading various genres can really help you to better connect with the world, to connect with the characters, and taking that step also can improve your vocabulary.

Go ahead. Give it a shot. You may just like that new book you decide to pick up.

Have you stepped out of your comfort zone with a new genre? Feel free to post your comments.
