Looking for some excellent live piano concerts to attend? Kenosha, Racine, and Milwaukee have them this weekend, the 8th and 9th of March 2014.
Saturday at Carthage College: The "Monster Concert"-- The finale of the Lakeside Piano Festival (master classes and mini-workshops on jazz, accompanying, and harpsichord) will be the third annual Carthage Keyboard Monster Concert featuring the Carthage Keyboard Ensemble, Carthage piano principal duos, and music students from the Carthage Community Piano Program. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the A. F. Siebert Chapel.
Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Racine: Piano Concerto #2 by Frédéric Chopin-- Sahun Hong, first place winner of the 2012 North American Bi-Annual Piano Competition (held in Milwaukee and Brookfield) and the 2014 Baltimore Music Club Competition, has his debut performance with the Racine Symphony Orchestra. The concert will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $23 general, free for students with I.D.
Sunday at Wisconsin Conservatory of Music: From Rameau to Ravel-- WCM's own faculty member Michael Thiele will perform piano works by French composers dating from the Baroque period of music up through the twentieth century. He is including works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc, Maurice Ravel, and Camille Saint-Saens. The program will also be held at 3:00 p.m., in the Helen Bader Recital Hall. Tickets range from $15 to $35.
