Elizabeth Thompson, MD, MPH is a radiation oncologist trained at Johns Hopkins and Harvard. After years of treating cancer patients as well as undergoing a double mastectomy herself, Dr. Thompson realized that individuals had important needs beyond the clinical, and created a line of specially designed products to enhance patient care and recuperation. Initially she created a "tip sheet" that was distributed all over the country. When women started asking her to assemble the recommendations together for them in a kit, Dr. Thompson saw a need for an actual company.
Founded in 2011 BFFL Co develops and markets products that improve the patient experience before, during and after hospitalization to preserve one’s dignity and enhance recovery. BFFL Co combines these proprietary products with useful patient organizational tools and thoughtful personal and medical care items that instill patient comfort and empowerment while demonstrating the utmost respect for the patient.Product Line
BFFL Co creates a line of BFFLBags, care and recovery packs, and garments such as Masthead Bras for comfort and ease after a mastectomy. The brightly patterned mood-lifting BFFLBags are made of stain-resistant high-quality pack cloth, rest upon metal feet, not the hospital floor, and are full of essentials items that patients often never knew they needed.
BFFLBags are currently available for breast cancer, lumpectomy, gynecological/ovarian cancers, transplant, neurological, and prostate cancer (new!). The new products on the horizon are the Mommy/Delivery Bag which is the ultimate Hospital bag for the expectant mom and the Masthead Surgical Bra.
"I love the symbol of the Masthead-- a brave woman moving forward to lead the ship through its journey. It's the symbol for all of our bras," says Dr. Thompson.
BFFL products are available online at bfflco.com, through distributors such as 1-800-FLOWERS, and at leading hospitals around the country.
