Phyrexian Swarmlord | New Phyrexia

Phyrexian Swarmlord brings an entire legion of infectious insects to surge over your opponent in Magic: the Gathering’s New Phyrexia.  Expensive at a 6 casting cost, Phyrexian Swarmlord is a huge threat if you can land even just a few points of poison early in a game.

Infect (This creature deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters.)

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a 1/1 green Insect creature token with infect onto the battlefield for each poison counter your opponents have.

If you’re able to get through in the early game with a Plague Stinger, Blighted Agent, or just a mundane Vector Asp, Phyrexian Swarmlord will end the game quickly if he can stay on the table for a turn or two.

Phyrexian Swarmlord puts an extreme amount of pressure on your opponent, as anything blocking your Phyrexian troops will wither and die, but letting any amount through will result in even more venomous insects looking to feast each turn.

The wording is significant as well for multiplayer games, as you’ll be able to get a ridiculously huge army going if several players at the table are tagged with poison.

6 mana is a hard sell in the current constructed environment with titans running around, but with a radical shift coming in just a few months things could change.

In Limited you can’t ask for much more to get started with an infect deck - Phyrexian Swarmlord is a perfect first pick that will dominate and win a game if not dealt with immediately.  If you have any desire to play infect, Phyrexian Swarmlord is an exceptional card worthy of your first pick.
