Say this for The Used and Taking Back Sunday (who performed April 1 in Denver): They know their audience. As well they should. Both bands have been around for nearly 15 years and feature nearly the same lineups as they did in the early 2000s, and have seen a series of musical genres (pop-punk, screamo, post-hardcore) rise and fall. So where does that leave a bunch of 30-something rock musicians? Right where they want to be, it seems. At the Denver show, The Used singer Bert McCraken noted that he wanted to tour with TBS because they just wanted to perform music without the associated nonsense. "There are no rockstars in this room," he said. Whether that's deliberate or a function of the fickle nature of Top 40 radio is irrelevant. What matters is that the Ogden Theatre was sold out and everyone -- fans and bands alike -- left happy.
