A new processor and more—
Motorola’s smartphones have usually been powered by Texas Instruments’ OMAP processors, but a new model, that is yet to be named, is switching gears and will have Intel chips at the heart of its electronics.
The best guess is that the device will use the Medfield-based Atom processor.
Android 4.0
In addition to the surprising switch in processors is the possible use of Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich OS running the new device. The Android 4.0 OS promises to be a faster running, more powerful operating system that will meet the challenges of powering high-end smartphones.
What else?
Although complete details are sketchy, what is known is that the new phone will have an upgraded version of the MotoBlur user interface.
An improved camera will sport “instant-on” capabilities and offer 15-frames-per-second burst capture mode. The new camera features are expected to be major selling points for this smartphone.
No buttons
The photo of the new smartphone shows no front-facing buttons and will be a departure from the standard button array found on virtually every smartphone produced today.
The unveiling
Talking heads expect the new Motorola smartphone to debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain later this month.
