Periodically, usually during a story about American Hustle or Silver Linings Playbook, I've stopped to lament the seeming disappearance of Susanne Bier's Depression-era drama, Serena. One would think that a film reuniting Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper would have studios falling all over themselves to acquire it, and yet we've heard nothing on when it may be released. This despite talk that it had been screening to potential distributors sine last year. So what's the deal? There may be some light on the horizon as new photos have emerged, along with possible news on a release date.
Shot a short time after Silver Linings Playbook, the film is an adaptation of Ron Rash's novel about North Carolina industrialist George Pemberton (Cooper) and his new wife, Serena (Lawrence), as they ruthlessly build their timber empire. But when Serena learns she is unable to bear children, it sets her on a vengeful downward spiral in which she targets George's illegitimate son.
Mockingjay.net claims Serena will finally open on September 27th, but there's no confirmation from any official sources.
