Miley Cyrus is hot right now; so hot she’s holding on to the Billboard Hot 100 spot for her song “Wrecking Ball.” This makes the second week in a row that Cyrus has held the title; a feat that is undoubtedly giving the singer/actress a new reason to twerk. While it is always an impressive feat for a singer to reach number one on a chart like Billboard, there is something that should be taken into consideration: YouTube views. You see, when Billboard’s Hot 100 factors in criteria for a song, they include how many views a song has received on YouTube.
“Wrecking Ball” has received over 100 million views; however, not all of those views were from fans praising Cyrus’ work. Many people tune in to see Miley Cyrus swinging on a wrecking ball nude, or just to see what all the hype is about.
“The proof is in the pudding,” so they say; and when it comes to the full extent of Miley Cyrus’ popularity and ability to sell music; we’ll have to wait until she releases Bangerz. On the other hand, New Zealand artist Lorde is holding her own on Billboard’s rock charts as well as iTunes, where Cyrus is pleading on Twitter for fans to push her music to the top 10. Cyrus’ fans are committed to ensuring the former Disney star keeps her top spot on all charts and are actively trying to prevent Lorde from claiming any title that they believe belongs to Miley.
One of the most disturbing factors regarding Cyrus’ popularity is the way people interact with her on Twitter. You should be warned that if you read any replies to Miley Cyrus’ official tweets, you will be met with pornographic requests from those demanding Cyrus perform sexual acts on them. If you are to click the link to Cyrus’ official Twitter account, be forewarned that there is profanity and sexually explicit language not only in Cyrus tweets, but in the way the public treats her.
It is unclear whether Cyrus finds this behavior appropriate or disrespectful.
While it is also unclear whether Cyrus truly has a strong enough fan base to put her album to number one, or if her VMA and iHeartRadio performances are making her a viral sensation, one this is for certain: Cyrus expects to make music history with Bangerz.
Spin reported on Sept. 27, 2013, that Cyrus expects to sell as many records as the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson. Speaking of Bangerz, Cyrus stated, “There are albums that people still are listening to, like Michael Jackson's Bad, because it's so f@#%^$% dope. I want people to listen to my album like that."
Continuing, Cyrus added,"Like, I have one Pixies record that is a time for me — from the time I was 16 until I was 18, the Pixies is all I listened to.
“And I'm going to be that artist to so many people, so I want to make sure my record is the best it can be."
Spin commented, “If her new album lives up to the King of Pop and the template-setters of alternative rock, we'll be pretty excited, but that's some big talk.”
It is big talk, and it appears Cyrus is full of big talk these days. From saying other pop stars can’t compete with her to her mentoring Justin Bieber so people won’t see him as another Vanilla Ice or a joke, it appears Cyrus has an astounding level of self-confidence.

What do you think? Does Cyrus have real competition with Lorde, or is Cyrus just a social trend due to hypersexual behavior?
