Miley Cyrus is bowing to a new Lorde and her fans are not pleased. Cyrus has shed her Disney Hannah Montana image as well as her clothes and has voiced statements that she wants to rule the world. Madonna made similar statements during the height of her career and Cyrus seems to have at least succeeded in stirring controversy, though it remains unclear if she actually rules the world. Unfortunately, New Zealand artist Lorde has just claimed the top iTunes spot for the U.S. removing Cyrus from her domain. While nothing ugly has transpired between the two; Cyrus’ fans have tweeted threats to Lorde. Should she be concerned?
Cyrus’ fans are obsessed, even stalkerish, as the “Wrecking Ball” singer explained. She stated that she hired one fan who was "more than a stalker" due to her ability to get her to the top spot on social media networks.
Cyrus stated, “She’s more than a stalker because she’s so obsessed, she knows things about how to break VEVO records, which we did with her help.”
It seems a bit scary that Cyrus encourages her stalker fans’ behavior and rewards them by hiring them.
The entire controversy came to light when Lorde tweeted the following, “wo #1 on US itunes. even if it lasts an hour i feel HAPPY. downside is all these miley fans telling me they're gonna stab my rotting corpse.”
Miley responded to the threats on Twitter, but some feel she didn’t hold her fans accountable for their behavior. Cyrus tweeted, “@lordemusic why r people so mean??? Ps your music is awesome.
Since Cyrus thrives on stalker fans making her trend online, it seems that she could take a stronger stance against people whom are possibly “more than stalkers” from threatening other artists with bodily harm and death.
What do you think of this controversy? Should Cyrus have taken a stronger position against her fans threatening Lorde?
