Some say Foster The People is a modern-day MGMT.
I agree and I love the band, but what comes with that electro-pop type of music? Lots of crazy lights.
Compared to July's show at House of Blues, Foster The People's show at SOMA in San Diego on 10/19 was a little easier to photograph.
No strobe lights - aka the concert photographer's enemy - were used this time; it seemed like Foster The People brought in their own lighting.
Trying to capture singer Mark Foster's infamous dance moves or Isom Innis' crazy energetic skills on the drum/keyboards/other random percussion instruments was pretty tough with the spotlights that were constantly in motion. Although sometimes the lighting did make for some neat silhouette shots.
From a concert go-er's perspective, Foster The People is a fantastic live band. Their performance is always incredibly energetic and their tunes (the majority of them off their most recent album Torches) are just so catchy! The crowd almost drowned out Mark Foster during "Pumped Up Kicks" (probably their most recognizable song).
The only thing that could have probably amped up the show even more, is if the band members would have satisfied the crowd's outstretched arms by giving out a few high fives.
As for SOMA itself, when it is sold out, it is incredibly difficult to make your way to the pit as a photographer. I realized later that there is a side entrance where one of the security guys usually stands. That would have been nice to know ahead of time. Oh and WEAR EARPLUGS! It's loud up there!
