While the majority of America was first introduced to Dia Frampton last year via her appearance as a finalist on Season 1 of the reality TV singing competition, "The Voice", her band (Meg & Dia) has actually been touring and releasing albums since the mid-2000s. Sisters Meg and Dia Frampton had gained attention the good old-fashioned way... that is, by establishing a fanbase through extensive touring and self-promotion (dating back to the MySpace days). Fast-forward to 2012 and Miss Frampton finds herself with a new major record label deal, a national headlining tour, as well as simultaneously being pegged as the opener for Blake Shelton on his national arena tour. Yup, she's going places.
Continuing on the momentum of her appearance on "The Voice", her national tour is in support of her recently released solo debut album, RED (Universal Republic) - it's an eclectic yet highly accessible outing which includes everything from acoustic folk-inspired ballads to danceable electro-pop (with the former being more predominant). The setlist for Dia's performance at The Note on February 8, 2012 was notably RED-heavy; however, she also performed a diverse number of covers from the likes of Tom Petty ("American Girl"), Creedence Clearwater Revival ("Bad Moon Rising"), and Kanye West ("Heartless"). She even took some time out to serenade a lovestruck young man that had brought her an early Valentine's Day card. Along those lines, she handled perfectly the numerous declarations of "I love you, Dia" that were all too frequently flung toward her - no doubt, she is a veteran of the stage. Joining her on stage were her Meg & Dia bandmates, including her lovely and multi-talented sister, Meg. Between her voice, musicianship, and songwriting abilities, Dia is clearly the real deal. Check out Dia's YouTube channel, as well as more Meg & Dia awesomeness (including bandmate shenanigans) here.
Opening for Dia was Canadian acoustic singer-songwriter, Andrew Allen.
