On Monday, Jan. 21, in Washington, DC the public ceremonial inauguration for U.S. President Barack Obama was held.
After a fierce battle with Republican nominee Mitt Romney, Obama would secure a second term in office on Nov. 6 after scoring 332 electoral votes compared to 206 for Romney.
It seemed to be quite the festive day as the President took his oath of office followed by an inaugural address.
The day included musical performances from Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor, and Beyonce Knowles.
Clarkson, "American Idol" winner and Billboard chart-topper, performed a rendition of “America (My Country ‘Tis of Thee)” while Beyonce gave her version of “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
So powerful was Clarkson’s performance that Senator Chuck Schumer was left exclaiming “Wow!”.
Taylor took to his acoustic guitar for his version of “America the Beautiful” and seemed right at home amongst the thousands in attendance.
Beyonce closed the inauguration with her performance and exuded grace throughout her performance. After her act, Beyonce proceeded to walk straight towards the president to congratulate him before walking to sit with her husband Jay-Z.
