Natural and cultural history play a big role in the photography of William Wylie, whose “This Heavy Veil” is on display at Page Bond Gallery with new photographs from Naples, Italy.
Wylie’s new photos and videos record the sea and landscape around Naples, Mount Vesuvius and the Amalfi Coast.
Isabelle Abbot, a Virginia-based painter, prefers to paint on a small scale, according to a press release by the gallery. Abbot calls her paintings “land portraits” that exist between realism and abstraction.
“For Abbot, painting is an investigative tool by which she can experience and understand the world around her,” the gallery said in a statement about the artist’s work. “Her gestural, dynamic paintings condense the landscape into the human language of fundamental shape, line and color.”
“This Heavy Veil” and “Surveying Light” will be on view through Friday, Oct. 30.
Page Bond Gallery is located at 1625 West Main Street, and can be reached at 804/ 359-3633. Gallery hours are Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
