One of the easiest ways to get some great pictures of birds without having to go out into the country and backwoods is to put a bird feeder in your back yard. Just place the bird feeder in camera range to a window that can be opened. It will be much better to use a tripod with a lower ISO setting if possible, but if using hand held move up to a higher ISO to get a  picture without blur. By using a curtain to hide behind with the lens of the camera protruding outside some great pictures can be captured. It may take a few days for the birds to find the feeder but they will come.
