Celebrity photographer, Douglas Kirkland, who got his start taking pictures of Marilyn Monroe, has just published a book of exclusive photos from the set of Michael Jackson's monumental "Thriller" video. During the four days in 1983 when the "Thriller"' video was shot in Los Angeles, Douglas Kirkland and journalist Nancy Griffin were the only members of the media allowed on the set.
For the first time, Kirkland is publishing over 200 behind the scenes photos on the set of Michael Jackson's Thriller in the new book "Michael Jackson: The Making of 'Thriller': 4 Days/1983" with an introduction by Nancy Griffin. Just announced yesterday, Kirkland will appear at a signing for his new book at The Celebrity Vault in Beverly Hills.
As described on Amazon, the photographs "capture Jackson both in high performance mode and relaxing on the set and depict his transformation into the characters in the video as well capturing the public and private faces of Michael Jackson." Nancy Griffin wrote a piece on the making of Michael Jackson's Thriller for Vanity Fair back in the July 2010 issue called "The 'Thriller' Diaries". She revealed that while covering the story on set for Life magazine, she was asked by director John Landis to appear as an extra by sitting in the movie ticket booth where Michael and his date are watching the horror movie.
