That first exhibition game in college basketball is about getting the rust out, smoothing out your edges, and as one player so succinctly put it, playing someone other than ourselves.
That was all accomplished in Northwestern's 91-71 win over Robert Morris (Ill). Execution is still however, a work in progress. While Drew Crawford (16 points) and freshman DerShon Cobb (12 points) looked ready for prime time, the offensive sets looked less than sharp, and defense at times was certainly disapponting.
"Some of our best shooters had open looks and missed 'em," said Northwestern coach Bill Carmody. "Balls were dropped. So it looked like a first game to me."
