How quickly things change. The Northwestern Wildcats looked primed to steal a win against a Top-10 team at home in Michigan St. They'd do everything right for three quarters, taking a 17-7 lead into the half, and going into the fourth quarter up 24-14, only to watch the Spartans score three times in the quarter, and leave Evanston smiling with a 35-27 win that all but ended the Wildcats Big Ten title hopes for the season.
Kirk Cousins (29-43, 331 yards, 3TD) was stellar for the Spartans (8-0), who remain undefeated with the win, but it was receiver B.J. Cunningham who was the star. His acrobatic catch in the end zone on a pass from Cousins with two minutes left in the game proved to be the game winner.
Running back Edwin Baker would add a tocuhdown late, breaking through the Wildcats (5-2) defense for a score at the 1:07 mark, and safety Eric Gordon's interception of Dan Persa in the final seconds ended any comeback hopes for good.
