Photo gallery: Best of the 2011 U.S. Championships

What will we remember about the 2011 U.S. Championships? The people, of course. Gymnastics is a sport, but sport is no more interesting than the stories of people who participate in it and the art they produce on the podium.

This "best of" gallery (access it by clicking here or by clicking on the image of Sarah Finnegan off to the left) contains shots from both the men's and women's competitions in St. Paul, also gives brief synopsis on about how each competitor fared.

Some, like Texas Dreams youngster Bailie Key, are at the very beginning of their elite careers, while others like Chellsie Memmel and Alicia Sacramone are continually redefining how far a top female gymnast can go.

The senior men's team, fueled by the competitive drive of new national champion Danell Leyva and runner up Jonathan Horton, is one of the most exciting of the past two and a half decades, and juniors like Sean Melton, Jake Martin and Yul Moldauer proved in St. Paul that the future too will be very bright indeed.

Gymnastics photographer Jessica Frankl flew in to shoot the meet for Examiner.com (and to support her younger brother David as he competed in the junior men's division!) and provided all the photos in this gallery. Please take a moment to click through and enjoy her excellent work.
