Photo facial treatments may work better than Botox
I interviewed Lori Mitchell, RN of Roseville Aesthetics, for some education on the photo facial front.
If you want to look younger, photo facial may be the answer. Photo facial uses a different hand piece than the hand piece used for laser resurfacing. Photo facial has very little downtime. No numbing is required. Photo facial is a superficial treatment.
It is Intense pulsed light. It feels like a tiny little rubber band snap on the face. Treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes. It is very quick. It gets rid of the sun spots, freckles and any discolorations. It works great on the tiny little vessels (capillaries).
Photo facial is not safe for skin type 4, 5 or 6. Those are the darker skin types. Photo facial works great for skin types 2 and 3. If you have light skin with really dark sun damage and freckles, you’re a perfect candidate for photo facial. An aesthetician can also treat hands, necks and chest. Photo facial can treat many areas.
When you come in for an orientation, your aesthetician will ask you to do a questionnaire. This helps her assess your skin type. She should ask your ethnicity. If you’re German and Irish, your skin type is probably a 2. She could be the most aggressive with your skin type. If you’re Italian, Indian, Hispanic or Korean, you would be a skin type 4, possibly 5. you and your aesthetician go through a questionnaire and come to that conclusion together. “
Photo facial is inexpensive but it can still make a huge impact on your appearance. This treatment targets superficial imperfections such as sun spots and freckles as well as tiny, red capillaries (as in rosacea). Photo facial is less intense than Botox and resurfacing. Photo facial just targets spots. It’s not stimulating collagen or targeting wrinkles like Botox and resurfacing do.
Everything has potential side effects. That includes photo facial
The risks of photo facial are darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation) and lightning of the skin (hypopigmentation). There is a greater risk with darker skin, therefore your aesthetician will not perform photo facial on darker ethnicities or tanned skin.
