Photo contest benefits Massachusetts fire stations

According to an article published in The Standard Times® on January 12, 2012, written by Brian Fraga, a photo contest sponsored by Kaplansky Insurance®, worth five thousand dollars, will run on Facebook® until February 20th.

The contest is called the “5,000 Firehouse Contest”. Towns from the South Coast area such as Acushnet, Freetown and Rochester were the first to submit photos but since then, Hingham, Mansfield, Quincy and Southborough have joined in, which means that the contest is spreading. In fact it seems that fire houses from all over the state are joining in.

To vote go to: Facebook.com/kaplanskyinsurance, click on the word photo in the left hand column at the bottom.  Then once the photo album page appears, click on the album named “$5,000 Firehouse Contest.”  Before the person can vote or “like” a particular photo that person needs to become a fan of the page.

On the Kaplansky® contest site under each photo, the captions remind voters to tag any photos that have people in it that are recognized so that a link will be made and word can spread.

All of these fire departments could use prize money like this to maintain their locations and buy updated equipment.

This writer has already become a fan of the page and “liked” a certain photo to be part of this contest.  Technology can in some cases lead to fun and games and also to a good cause.
