The photo of a dog hanging from the ceiling of a dog spa in Wilmington, N.C., has led to a police investigation and the creation of a petition, reported Wednesday's WECT News.

The photo of the dog was posted to a Facebook page for Tim Suggs, a former employee at Olga's Dog Spa, where the photo was reported to have been taken.

The dog, named "Vinnie," belonged to a client and according to the dog spa owner, Olga Glover Littleton, the ceiling escapade took place years ago and the dog was apparently not injured in the controversial "stunt."

Littleton claims that Suggs was recently fired from her business and that he posted the photo to Facebook in an act of revenge.

The photo has gone viral since its posting - currently it has been shared over 800 times, and there are over 100 comments on the page.

Some people have defended what happened - stating that the dog was in a harness and that it was just a harmless prank. Others see the incident as not only unprofessional and inappropriate, but highly suggestive of animal cruelty.

The police have designated a detective to look into the situation further and animal control is investigating as well.

A petition asking for the Olga Dog Spa to be closed currently has over 5,500 signatures.
