The Urban Ecology Organization came into existence back in 1991 when many concerned and alert citizens became all too aware their neighborhoods had become neglected, crime infested and littered with years of trash. They organized park clean ups in Riverside Park and Washington park (there will soon be a third Urban Ecology Center in Menomonee River) and began to bring these vibrant communities back to life. They then began to use the parks to teach neighborhood students about nature and science.
Award winning community and education centers now stand in these once tattered neighborhoods serving 77,000+ people each year and restoring urban green centers in Milwaukee.
Upcoming events in January include; early morning bird walks, young scientists club, introduction to forestry and on Saturday, Jan 12 from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. Edible Gardening for Sustainability Series: Permaculture, Bio dynamics, Organics and Plant Biology.
