Friday, Oct. 4, award-winning freelance writer Windy Lynn Harris will conduct a workshop for writers at the Desert Foothills Library, 38443 N. Schoolhouse Road, Cave Creek, Ariz., from 1-3 p.m. In addition to providing information about where to find thousands of markets for poetry, essays and short stories, Harris will discuss how to format a manuscript for submission, how to find the right editor for each piece, and how to write a winning query letter.
Harris, who earned her first awards for short humor pieces, is a former weekly entertainment columnist for Nights and Weekends. Her writing has appeared throughout the United States and Canada in such magazines as Cahoots, 34th Parallel and Raising Arizona’s Kids. She also writes short stories and literary novels and has shared her writing knowledge with such local groups as the Phoenix Writers Club, the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers and the Arizona Authors Association.
For the workshop on Oct. 4, Harris says, “I really hope to get a good crowd of writers who are ready to submit their work to editors.” The workshop is free to the public, but seating is limited. To register, call (480) 488-2286.
