Friday, Jan. 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Dog-Eared Pages Used Books welcomes author, marketing expert and publishing consultant Patricia L. Brooks to the store’s Friday Night Writes series. Dog Eared Pages is located at 16428 N. 32nd St. in Phoenix.
Brooks invites authors to come to the interactive workshop, entitled “Marketing You and Your Book,” and learn marketing tips to help launch themselves and their books into the world of writing, publishing and book sales. At the workshop, Brooks will help attendees do the following:
- Review current publishing/marketing plans
- Set smart goals for branding and differentiation
- Identify objectives for distribution
- Plan strategies for success
Brooks has a master’s degree in organizational management and was an Arizona State University faculty associate for more than twelve years. She is the author of “Gifts of Sisterhood: Journey from Grief to Gratitude,” written after losing her sister to lung cancer. In addition, she is the president/founder of the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers, a group she has built to number 75 over the past eight years, and also of Brooks Goldmann Publishing Company, LLC. Her second nonfiction book, a combination of memoir and self-help entitled “Captive No More,” is due out in 2014.
Located in north-central Phoenix, Dog-Eared Pages specializes in recently released, used and collectible books and was voted Best of the Valley for 2013 by Phoenix Magazine. It hosts such activities as Maggie’s Mystery Book Club, Friday Night Writes, Venerable Scholar’s Committee and the Liar’s Club, a writing group for young authors 17 and under.
No reservation is necessary to attend Friday Night Writes. Simply arrive between 5 and 5:30 p.m. and purchase a $5 ticket, which can be used toward purchase of the author’s book that evening or for any other used books in the store.
