French rock band Phoenix won for Best Alternative Album last night at the 2010 Grammy Awards, beating out the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The award was presented in the afternoon, non-televised portion of the ceremony. Phoenix was on hand to accept. Band members pulled out their cell phones and began recording video to capture the moment as they walked to the stage.
Our prediction had been that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs would edge out Phoenix for the award. The other nominees in the category were Death Cab for Cutie, Depeche Mode, and David Byrne & Brian Eno.
In a ho-hum acceptance speech, singer Thomas Mars thanked the band's producers and record company executives.
