On Monday a Phoenix to Salt Lake City Delta flight returned to Phoenix after one or more birds hit the aircraft and created a hole just above the front window of the plane. Bird strikes are common and pilots are trained to deal with them. Typically, birds hit aircraft as they are taking off, but the pilot stated that this occurred a “considerable distance” from the airport.
No one was injured, but the plane had to be repaired.
