On Feb. 22, Robert and Peggy Mallen of G Cue Billiards, and the Phoenix Amateur Pool Tour (TAP), sold their association franchise to dedicate more time to their other billiard enterprises. The new owners, Les and Sheri Elliott, have years of experience in running billiard leagues, including the Arkansas state TAP association, as well as being the owners of Krome Sports Bar and Grill in Little Rock.
Press Release: Sheri Elliot, Feb. 25
To All Phoenix Billiard Enthusiasts,
By now I’m sure you are aware that the Phoenix TAP Pool League has changed hands. This, of course, brings up many questions in everyone’s mind as to the continued management of the league.
Robert and Peggy introduced the TAP format to the Phoenix area eleven years ago and have developed and managed a very successful organization. We respect their dedication and knowledge and they will be assisting us for the next several months. So put your mind at ease, it will be “business as usual.”
It’s important to us that you know a little about our background and experience so you feel comfortable through the transition.
First of all, I, Sheri Elliott, am the official owner, on paper, and my husband, Les Elliott, is my business partner. I am the owner and GM of a very successful bar and billiard facility in Benton Arkansas by the name of Krome Billiards. Plus I have owned Arkansas TAP for the past nine years. Both Les and I already have extensive experience with the format and the day-to-day management of the TAP League business. Please check out our web site at www.kromebilliards.net. View the video – it will give you a good sense of our current business.
Les will be the face of Phoenix TAP most of the time and I will be traveling back and forth to manage both entities. Les’ background is in law enforcement and he has owned his own plumbing business for over 27 years and is a master plumber himself. He has since sold his plumbing business to partner with me on a full time basis. He makes custom cues in his spare time and can fix just about anything!
Both Les and I are very excited to meet and get to know everyone. Les will be visiting each division in the next few weeks and I will be in Phoenix in April to do the same. We both love the game of pool and have been players for several years - Les is a handicap 6 and I am a handicap 5 on the bar box tables. Oh…and did I mention that we have six children? I just had to throw that in because that is probably one of our greatest accomplishments.
My hope for this letter is to set your mind at ease and let everyone know how thrilled we are to have this opportunity in Phoenix. We will work hard to meet and exceed your expectations of your Phoenix TAP Pool League.
If you have questions, please e-mail us at phoenixtap@yahoo.com or call (501) 416-5651.
Thank you,
Sheri Elliott
With the advent of this sale, Robert and Peggy Mallen intend to focus their time to the growth and expansion of their new Balabushka cue and chalk lines, as well as continuing to provide quality billiard equipment to players of all levels at their retail store.
The Phoenix billiard community has gone through many difficult times in the past two years with the closing of Click's Billiards, along with the Northern Lounge. But with new experienced ownership taking control of a highly successful pool league in the Valley of the Sun, a turning point may be coming for pool shooters going forward in the state of Arizona.
