Phoenix Suns trade: Sebastian Telfair traded to Toronto Raptors in deadline deal

A Phoenix Suns trade of Sebastian Telfair has been completed with the Toronto Raptors. This Suns trade sends Telfair to the Raptors for center Hamed Haddadi and a second-round pick according to a report from Thursday (Feb. 21).

After trading away Jose Calderon to the Detroit Pistons, the Raptors had a big need for a backup point guard on the roster. That makes Telfair a nice fit on the bench and he could end up seeing more minutes than he did with the Suns.

For Phoenix, this was a good way to add another draft pick in the hopes of building the team up in the long-term. Haddadi might have an upside as well, but he was way down on the depth chart in Toronto.

This season with the Suns, Telfair was averaging 17.3 minutes, 6 points, and 2.5 assists per game. He should see a bump in minutes backing up Kyle Lowry in Toronto and maybe even more if Lowry cannot stay healthy. At the moment it is unclear where Haddadi fits into the short-term plans for the Suns.

This Phoenix Suns trade might not make front page news, but it did get the team another future draft pick that could turn into something down the road. As for the Raptors, Sebastian Telfair is another player that might help them make a run at a playoff spot.
