It was a long time coming, but the Suns finally got their 2,000th win in franchise history in Saturday's 97-81 victory over the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. With the W, the Suns became the 10th franchise to reach the feat and the fourth fastest to do so.
Coming into the game, a win against the Bulls seemed like a long shot for the visiting Suns. Phoenix was coming off of a terrible fourth quarter collapse the night before in Brooklyn and Chicago just got one of their better wins of the season in the Big Apple. Not to mention, the Suns had lost 12 straight contests before tip-off.
The Suns getting back in the win column can be attributed to improved play on the offensive end and continued effort on defense. Big nights from Luis Scola and Michael Beasley, both of whom contributed 42 of the Suns 97 points, helped out tremendously as well.
Beasley was especially impressive considering the lack of minutes he had received of late. The first-year Sun showed an aggression and a shooting ability which hasn't been seen all season long. Beasley being able to build on his big night in the Windy City could go a long ways to turning his terrible season around.
Despite all of the Suns struggles this season, this is a night for fans in Phoenix to celebrate. Not only did Phoenix knock off their 12-game road losing streak, but they also reached a great accomplishment in 2,000 victories for the franchise.
