The Phoenix Coyotes have signed Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a six-year contract. The 6-foot-2, 190 pound defenseman was drafted by the Coyotes in the 1st round, 6th overall, in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
“Oliver is an exceptional young player who will continue to improve as he matures,” Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said in a recent release. “He is an important part of our future and we are pleased to have agreed on a long term contract.”
This season the Karlskrona, Sweden native has tallied 17-points, on three-goals and 14-assists, to lead all Coyotes defenseman in points. Ekman-Larsson made his presence known last season. In 20012-12 he appeared in all 82 regular season games, scored 13-goals and dished out 19-assists.
Ekman-Larsson has been with the Coyotes since 2010. In three NHL seasons he has appeared in 158-games, scored 17-goals, handed out 42-assists and has a plus-11 rating.
