As the world spins closer to an apocalyptic event where the rule of law is anarchy one can not help wondering would life on the other side be that much different in the outcome? Questions need to be asked if mankind has any hope of staving off a reality too horrific to even contemplate. Cultures have clashed through-out the ages for it has always been for the pursuit of power, control and wealth that has dominated man's conscious thoughts and actions since the beginning of time. Deep seeded cultural differences have evolved from over thousands of years where the diversity of man should be celebrated and yet we continue to denounce diversity in the name of racial and social segregation. Today, mankind is no closer to the realization that we are all bonded together. An eternal brotherhood of man. The evolution of societies has yet to reach a point of conscious consideration where benevolence and compassion reign supreme in the thoughts and actions of all.

I am so often reminded of a quote that pretty much epitomizes what has to be the virtue of man. "Life is not measured by the number of breathes we take but by the moments that take our breath away." We should always not only remember but make a sincere effort to realize that the beauty of ones life and the world around is always reinforced by moments of astonishment and wonder that linger forever captured in our minds. For myself personally I am constantly astounded by the sheer majesty of some of the places I have gone to. Then again, in too many other places where there is only misery and woe my breath was also taken away by the sheer scope and depth that mankind has allowed himself to degrade the human experience to such deplorable levels. The world is still filled with human tragedies inflicted by man himself.

And, so it has come to pass that another season is already upon us. A season where soft gentle breezes linger so slowly. Where lemonade stands dote so many neighborhoods. I can remember with quite fondness the summers of long ago as though it was yesterday. The memories of a time that is all but lost and forgotten. And, yet here I am one of the last remaining remnants of a period that is forever linked to a softer more gentle time of innocence. To often though I am wakened only to find that there is a reality far removed from the innocence of my youth. To many moments today continue to deeply sadden and mortify us all.

The world is again filled with those whose vile contempt for the wonders of life has put mankind on notice that we still have a long way to go in understanding the complexities of different cultures and way of life. It has been our interactions over the past 40 years that continues to cause repercussions that have had disastrous results. Whether we realize it or not our actions in our foreign policy over the years has really not made the world any safer. Quite the contrary. The United States has imposed a doctrine of rightness indignation upon nations whose own culture for thousands of years is so vastly different. We continually fail in our understanding that two distinct cultures with two different view points can co exist and yet remain as different as night and day. Yet, we keep imposing and insisting others to adopt our way of life. In doing so we have encouraged wonton destruction rendering misery to so many. The despicable appalling acts and atrocities against man and nature continues to underscore the need for equality and balance in every country around the world. The brutality and savagery of individuals and organizations who willfully hide behind cloaks of deceit and deception only continues.

The endless suffering caused by civil wars, the continued crisis in the Ukraine, the flood of refugees seeking safe havens are all indications that mankind is on a collision course with disaster. The cold blooded carnage that only intensifies in all parts of the world where lives are lost thru acts of violent terror continues on a daily basis. Could it be because man has allowed an atmosphere of amorality, inequality, prejudice and social injustice to prevail? For over 40 years there has been acts of malicious, callous, deceitful, and deceptive manipulation by certain individuals to gain more power and control over the multitudes less fortunate.

When I was young it was in a totally different era. The optimism that prevailed during by coming of age years has now morphed into this sober realization that mankind has charted a course far removed from the hopes and dreams of my youth. We are witness to today a harsher, brutal, more troubled world where the optimism of by-gone years is replaced with the pessimistic attitudes that our hopes and dreams will never be fulfilled. It seems like the Four Horsemen Of the Apocalypse have descended upon nations all around the world. Many nations already face acute food and water shortages. We are continually being threatened by a global pandemic with the most recent outbreak of Ebola in Africa. We have polluted our oceans to the point that has only added to the growing threat of more food shortages and famine all around the world. These are just a few of the international crisis that man has caused which proves that just maybe the Four Horsemen have already arrived.

Is the world ready to rise up from all the atrocities that man has inflicted? Like a Phoenix rising out of the ashes of so much savage brutality, hunger, and misery. As this new summer season begins so should a renewed sense of purpose for humanity. A common goal of peace and understanding in our time. A common denominator that puts humanity on a chartered course to save themselves from themselves is vital for the preservation of all mankind. No longer can humanity continue to bear witness the enormity of wonton destruction of life and liberties that continues to plague every civilization.
