A Phoenix haboob that towers over the sky may have a funny name, but this extreme dust storm is no joke. The “haboob” — which is a type of very intense dust storm that can fully cloud the horizon with dust — in Phoenix has had its photos go viral this week, while video of the haboob has similarly been a hit on social media, UPI reports this Tuesday, Aug. 27.
The Phoenix haboob rocked its way through Phoenix this week, and the aftermath through both hit photos and viral videos of the dust storm have made a blasting impact on Twitter as well. It became a trending topic early Tuesday morning.
Here are some Twitter comments on the haboob:
“Amazing … This dust storm is called a “haboob!”
“Here are some photos I just took of the sky – or what you can see of it…”
“Can’t even see anything through this dust cloud #Haboob”
The Phoenix haboob blew its way through the metro area of the city, bringing with it very strong winds and low visibility. The wind power was said to hover around 60 mph at top speed in certain parts of the city, and Phoenix was forced to issue a severe dust storm warning to encourage people to stay indoors until the haboob blew itself out.
Fortunately, no reports of property damage or physical injury were associated with the storm. But the Phoenix haboob certainly left its mark in the trending photos and video, like the one above.
