Phoenix Greyhound Park in Arizona has announced that it will close permanently on Dec. 19. The track cites economic reasons for the closure.
According to the Phoenix park website, Daniel Luciano, the track's president and general manager, reports that track management will help employees and the kennel owners who have greyhounds affected by the closing. He says that the track will help find jobs for its employees and help the owners of the greyhounds relocate them to other racing venues or adoptive homes.
Although the Phoenix track doesn't own greyhounds, the track's website reports that Luciano and his staff are working with the kennel operators and Arizona Adopt A Greyhound Inc. For information on how you might be able to help this effort, see that group's website or see the Greyhound Pets of America website.
