Phoenix events for parents and children: February 4-5

Another fabulous winter weekend in Phoenix. Special events are happening all over town. If you can rip your family away from the Superbowl and the Waste Management Phoenix Open, here are some ideas for some different things to do.

Glendale Chocolate Affaire: Any event that has chocolate covered bacon and chocolate covered twinkies has got to be decadent. In addition to many varieties of chocolate, there will also be activities for the kids like face painting, arts and crafts and a rock climbing wall. Families can take a tour of Carreta's candy factory. There will be live entertainment, romance novelists and of course, chocolate.

Archeology for Kids: This take place at the Pueblo Grande Museum on Saturday February 4. Kids can become a Junior Archeologist and do a simulated excavation of a Hohokam pit house. Children aged 7-12 can register for this class which will teach them about mapping, recording and other archeological concepts. If you miss it this weekend, this event takes place the first Saturday of every month. While you're at the museum check out the "Dig It: Explore Archeology" Gallery.

Circus Vargus: This traveling circus will be at Arizona Mills Mall through February 6 and at MetroCenter Mall February 9-13. It is the circus featured in Water for Elephants. Children will get a chance to learn circus skills such as juggling, feather balancing and hula-hooping during the preview show.

Loaf Love Tour: Brought to you by Tillamook Cheese, this event will be in the Phoenix area for most of the month of February. The tour bus stops at the Phoenix Zoo on February 4. The whole idea of this tour is to bring tasty cheese to the people.

Peoria Centennial Celebration: Peoria is starting to celebrate Arizona's birthday a little early with a baseball celebration on February 3 and the celebration at Centennial Plaza on February 4. There will be kids activities, a decades walk and the guest speaker is historian Marshall Trimble.
