Phoenix Coyotes' Keith Yandle Named To The NHL All Star Team

Defenseman Keith Yandle was the only Phoenix Coyotes player selected for the NHL All Star Game. The NHL All Star Game takes place on January 29th, 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario.

The fourth round pick of the 2005 NHL Draft has spent his entire career in Phoenix. This season he has five-goals, 20-assists and he is currently ninth in scoring among defensemen.

The Coyotes have one other player that may have warranted selection to the NHL All Star Game. Goalie Mike Smith is currently 15th in the NHL with a 2.38 GAA and is tied for 12th in wins with 16. His .924 Save Percentage is tied for eighth and his stellar play is one of the main reasons that the Coyotes are three-points away from the final Western Conference playoff spot.

Fan voting decided the first six-players on the NHL All Star Team (three forwards, two-defensemen and one-goalie) while the remaining 36-players were named by NHL Hockey Operations. Two team captains will be selected by the 42 All Stars. The two captains then select their respective teams amongst the remaining 40-players. Each team must select 12-forwards, six-defensemen and three-goalies.
