There's an interesting mix of music and concerts this week, stars and up and comers, families and new names - let's get right to it !
Monday:
Binary Star @ Red Owl
This hip hop duo has been bubbling under for years, and they headline this show which features a full bill: Mouse Powell, Realistic, Galactic Basic, Optimal, the S.H.!.T., & DJ Element will open up in various capacities.
Tuesday:
The Brubeck Brothers Quartet @ Tempe Center for the Arts
The sons of recently deceased Dave Brubeck continue his jazz legacy with a show in Tempe - it's also brother Chris' birthday, so everyone who arrives by 6:45 p.m. will have a chance to sing “Happy Birthday” to Chris and share a bite of cake with him before the show.
Wednesday:
Lotus @ Crescent Ballroom
Not to be confused with Flying Lotus, the band Lotus will rock Crescent with a "foundation of beats evoking vinyl breaks, house and big-beat."
Thursday:
Yaasin Bey (pka Mos Def) @ Celebrity Theater
Having bestowed his title of 'Mos Def' upon Stephen Colbert, the newly renamed Yaasin Bey will be exhibiting pure mic control at the Celebrity - this is probably going to be the show of the month, so make sure you show up !
Friday:
The Shins, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetics & more @ McDowell Mountain Music Festival
Check the full lineup on the website link above, but this weekend festival will be rocking with a full lineup in a new location. Remember moments ago when I said the Mos Def was the concert of the month ? Scratch that ! It'll be the Roots on Saturday at the MMMF.
