If you’d like your Valentine’s Day celebration to end with the making of sweet music it probably wouldn’t hurt to try and get your sweetie in the mood by taking him or her to hear some sweet music. Here are some suggestions if you plan on being in the Phoenix area during the big love-fest. And don’t forget the candy and flowers!

SMILE EMPTY SOUL – February 13, Rockbar Inc., Scottsdale
Get an early start with this Valentine’s Day Eve concert. These experienced Cali-based hard rockers have a new album out, their sixth, called “Chemicals” and a hit single with “False Alarm.” The band has a very high energy show but occasionally they play a mellow song that’ll give you an excuse to cuddle. Also on the bill will be Atoms Fall, Stone Mary, Something to Kill and 13 Steps to Nowhere.

CATHERCIST – February 14, Joe’s Grotto, Phoenix
Members of this band are all in their early 20s but they play like seasoned vets; that’s why they were favorites on the Rockstar Uproar Festival Tour and the Carnival of Madness Tour. Songs like “Disconnected” from new album “As Hope Expires” is just the kind of melodic metal that’s red hot at radio these days. Also appearing will be American Headcharge, Righteous Vendetta and The Iris.

JO DEE MESSINA – February 14, Vee Quiva Casino, Laveen
Attend this show and you’ll not only get to hear the country sweetheart play her hits; you’ll also get to hear songs like “Peace Sign” from her upcoming album “Me,” scheduled for release on March 18. The album is being released on Dreambound Records, Jo Dee’s own label, and she says that this marks the first time in her career that she’s been able to make a record exactly the way she wanted to. Members of the casino’s players club get a discount on tickets.

DIRTYPHONICS – February 15, Arizona Event Center, Mesa
So, you were too busy gettin’ busy on Valentine’s Day that you couldn’t get to a show. Lucky for you there’s a good one happening the day after. Coming to the Valley all the way from Paris, expect this electronic dance outfit to dish out grooves that feature some seriously heavy bass. Appearing as part of the Crush Fest 2014 Festival with Laidback Luke, DJ Snake, Excision, Henry Fong and several others.

FLY MOON ROYALTY – February 21, Last Exit Live, Phoenix
You’re really a procrastinator, aren’t you? Okay, you can still get some love action a week after the big day with a little help from this Seattle-based soul duo. You’ll definitely be hearing new music because the latest Fly Moon Royalty record, “Unfinished Business,” will only be three days old this day. Also appearing will be Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra, Samuel L Cool J and Supajoint.
