PetSmart Charities’ four National Adoption Weekends held in 2013 resulted in 68,701 animals finding lifelong homes. In addition to thousands of cats, dogs, kittens and puppies finding their forever homes, PetSmart Charities rewarded local adoption partners with $35 in adoption-reward grants for every pet adopted at the event.

Jan Wilkins, executive director, PetSmart Charities, Inc. said;

Finding lifelong homes for thousands of deserving pets is a huge accomplishment, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our adoption partners and so many wonderful pet parents."

The next PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend will take place on February 14-16, 2014.

From its inception PetSmart chose not to add to the homeless animal problem by selling dogs and cats in their stores. In 1994 PetSmart Charities, a nonprofit animal welfare organization was created. Although a separate entity, PetSmart Inc. is PetSmart Charities largest corporate donor. This includes the donation of retail space for PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers in every one of PetSmart’s more than 1,300 stores. The purpose of these is to allow local shelters to showcase their adoptable animals in a friendly and convenient environment. Through this combination, and the additional sponsored adoption events, in excess of 400,000 dogs and cats are adopted each year nationally.
