The 7th annual Philly Beer Week starts tonight, May 30.
We call it a "week" but don't be fooled. It takes 10 days to explore and savor all of the beers and breweries in the Philadelphia region.
Philly Beer Week ends on June 10.
Philly? Again, don't be fooled.
Philadelphia is a great beer city, but this week will feature breweries from as far away as Portland, Maine (Allagash and Shipyard), Colfax, California (Crispin Cider), Halethorpe, Maryland (Heavy Seas) and even Czechoslovakia (Pilsner Urquell and Staropramen).
Pick your favorite city or suburban brewery and it's probably hosting something somewhere over the next 10 days.
Venues range from Allentown and Bethlehem to Glen Mills to Ephrata.
New this year is a mobile app for your smart phone to help you to find something fun and tasty on short notice. You'll have to create an account.
You can also friend the Hammer of Glory, used for the opening tap by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter tonight, on Facebook and follow the hammer around the region.
The event has its own Facebook page.
Visit the event home page for all of the details and remember: this is about flavor and quality. If you just want a cheap buzz, you can buy a suitcase of industrial yellow fizzy lager in any of the next 51 weeks.
