Looking for something to do that takes up few hours but does not cost alot of money? Pull into the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the 2012 Philly Auto Show. It runs until next Sunday. For under $15.00 you can arrive there and walk the entire floor.
It seems scaled back from years past. The Grand Hall used to hold expensive vehicles and the exotics which cost more than $100 thousand per vehicle. Most people just look at these vehicles. Even if you can afford it,they are just not practical. They will attract a crowd , cost about of $60 thousand per year to insure. They get horrible gas milage and an oil change cost over $1500.00 and takes all day. This year the exotics were on the main floor. In fact, all vehicles were on one floor.
Including some vendors that sold everything from cellphone accesories to car detail kits. It was all one one floor. Videos of exotic cars racing on the streets and getting pulled over were sold by girls in short skirts. Looking for readers to boost their declining circulation the Inquirer outfitted two girls in shorts and had them man a table, hoping to entice men to sign upfor the paper. They were touting the new Saturday sports paper.
Out back, the Cadillac team had vehicles for people to drive. Once just had to have a valid license and pass a breath test. A host rode with you as you took a $65 thousand dollar vehicle around the streets of the city. The ride was on a pre determined route that took about 10 minutes.
Downstairs was the DUB showroom. Tricked out cars and bikes. Displays as to who had the loudest sound system were every where you turned. It's a good thing these displays were kept away from the main showroom. At times the salesman could not be heard due to his showing off how loud the amps could drive the sound. The room was filled with people that would be happy to install a $ 6000.00 sound system in a $750.00 hooptie.
Most of the displays from the dealers on the main floor had an interactive attraction that people can participate in, from racing to computer games. All for free.
