Phillips wins AJHL MVP

According to the Alberta Junior Hockey League website on Monday, Canmore Eagles' defenseman Trey Phillips of Okotoks, Alberta has been named the Alberta Junior Hockey League's most valuable player and top defenseman for the 2013-14 season.

Phillips leads all Alberta Junior Hockey League defensemen in goals (25), assists (38) and points (63). He is also second in the entire Alberta Junior Hockey League in power play assists with 20.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League rookie of the year went to Chris Gerrie of the Olds Grizzyls. Gerrie leads all AJHL rookies in goals (18), assists (35) and points (53).

Meanwhile, Airdrie native Anthony Paskaruk, the captain for the Brooks Bandits, won the Don McNabb Memorial Trophy for the most dedicated player in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs commence March 6 with the division winners each getting a first round bye. The current division leaders are the Spruce Grove Saints and Brooks Bandits.
