Phillip Phillips' mother has been arrested for DUI. On Feb. 15, TMZ reported that Sheryl Phillips was busted in Georgia when her vehicle "swerved across lanes of traffic." Sheryl was pulled over by police and given a field sobriety test... which she totally failed.
"Cops took her into custody and transferred her to a nearby hospital, where doctors decided she was well enough to go to jail. She's currently being booked in Dougherty County," TMZ reports. While this is probably very embarrassing for the "American Idol" winner, there seems to be a bigger story here. According to sources, Phillips' parents actually split about a week ago.
Phillip Phillips' mother and his father have not had the best relationship with their son. While Phillips now makes his own money and has a career (providing it sticks), his parents have not really helped him out financially and he has had a tough time making ends meet.
Although Phillips is 22-years-old, his parents' split is probably not easy for him. It doesn't seem to matter how old a person is -- when their parents' marriage doesn't work, it is hard. So perhaps Sheryl Phillips was out drinking because she's had a tough week. It doesn't make it right, but it provides a small explanation as to why she may have been arrested.
It is unknown if Phillip Phillips' mother has an alcohol problem or if she has ever been arrested before.
