In a press conference today, officials said that they have obtained 2 search warrants to search Phillip Garrido properties in two separate kidnapping cases from the late 1980s. Police said that they have received hundreds of tips over the past few weeks, and they researching if these two kidnapping cases are related to Phillip and Nancy Garrido. A bone fragment has already been found at a property next to Phillip Garrido that the police have stated is probably human, but until tests on that bone come back, no one is sure who it may belong to.
In 1988, Michaela Garecht (right in photo), went missing at 9 years old and the police have reason to believe that she may have been kidnapped by Phillip Garrido. There will be another press conference later today, and Michaela’s mother will be present.
The police stated that the FBI, the Contra Costa County Police Department, and Hayward Police Department are all assisting with the search, and that the operation will take several days.
Ilene Mischeloff (left in photo) was abducted in 1989 at 13 years old another case that they think is related to Phillip Garrido. The police have been unable to rule out the Garrido’s in this case. There were enough similarities between Jaycee Dugard kidnapping and Ilene’s kidnapping to obtain a search warrant. The search will take several days and will take several different agencies to help, and they will be looking for any items that may connect the Garrido’s to Ilene. Phillip Garrido was released from jail a few months before Ilene disappeared.
Phillip and Nancy Garrido have been accused of kidnapping Jaycee Dugard when she was 11 years old in 1991. Jaycee Dugard was found last month after 18 years of being away from her family. Elizabeth Smart from Salt Lake City, Utah was another case of a young girl who was kidnapped and kept for almost a year before she was re-united with her family.
