Philippines: ‘War on Worms’ program to expand

Plans to expand the ‘War on Worms’ (WOW) program in the Philippines is to be discussed in a meeting in Roxas City, Capiz.

According to Capiz Provincial Health Officer Dr. Samuel Delfin in a press release Friday, the expansion will include other high-risk groups in the province.

The WOW program will also be integrated with the essential health care package and the lymphatic filariasis elimination program of the DOH.

Dr. Delfin explains that the presence of soil-transmitted parasites contributes to malnutrition and poor school performance in school-aged children and that the sustainability of the WOW program is essential to the improvement of the nutritional status especially of children.
