The Bureau of Immigration (BOI) has released numbers that show despite the various issues that could be affecting tourism negatively in the country, tourism from foreigners has increased.
As of November 8th of this year, a total of 2,562,505 foreigners had visited the Philippines as compared to 2,190,114 from the same period last year.
The numbers are interesting as some thought, including the tourism industry itself, the public relations nightmare with the August Hong Kong tourists’ killings and the more recently the myriad of travel warnings and advisories from major tourist nations would damper the industry.
Of the six countries that issued travel advisories because of possible terrorism, four are in the top ten lists of foreign visitors: Australia, Canada, Britain, and the US with Americans being number 1 with 679,406 visitors.
Rounding out the top ten in order are:
2. Korea (525,564)
3. Japan (331,156)
4. China, (229,989)
5. Australia, (140,238)
6. Canada, (116,175)
7. Britain (113,041)
8. Taiwan (99,465)
9. Malaysia (70,107)
10. Singapore (66,336)
